Piping allows you to use variables within surveys to represent strings of text. Question and answer text can be piped throughout the study, allowing you to update text in one place and have the changes propagate wherever the text has been piped. The editor offers a button to insert pipes into your text.
Detailed Steps
To insert a pipe into the question text:
- Go to the question where the pipe is to appear.
- Activate the Editor.
- Click the Pipe button:
- Select Questions to display the question tree.
- Select the question where the information is contained to open the tree.
- Click on the option you are interested in, either Question Text or Selected Answers.
- This will insert the pipe where the cursor is located.
Note: When you add a pipe to a question in the Question Editor, the pipe element is surrounded by [% %] to indicate that it is a variable.
Important: Reports display the pipe variable ([%PIPE_VARIABLE_NAME%]) rather than contents of the pipe.
