There are certain instances where a unique code needs to be provided to members within the community. This article provides steps for assigning the unique codes to members as identity variable values, and then creating an activity that will display their code to them.
Prerequisites
Create a CSV file of the memberids that you want to distribute a unique code to.- Ensure the first column header is titled memberid.
- In the second column, provide a unique code or value for each memberid.
- Ensure the second column's header matches the name of the identity variable you create in step 1 below.
Detailed Steps
Step 1. Create an identity variable
- Open the Community app and click Community > Profile Variables at the top of the page.
- Click +Profile Variable.
- Type a Variable Name.
- Select Identity as the profile variable type.
- Click Create.
Step 2. Upload the unique codes as members' identity profile variable values
- Open the Community app and click Community > Profile Variables.
- On the toolbar, click System Upload.
- Click Choose File, select the CSV file you created, and click Open.
- Click Upload.
If the file does not upload successfully, download the error report and resolve the errors within the file.
Now the member’s will have the unique code assigned as an identity variable value. You can view this in the user defined tab of a member’s profile.
Step 3. Create an activity that will display the unique code
- Open the Surveys app and click New Project.
- Under Survey, click Create.
- Name your survey, set the details, and click Create.
- On the survey Build tab, add an End Survey action.
- Set the End Survey action to display a message to respondents.
This is where you will provide members with their unique code. - In the text field, click to place your cursor where you want to insert the unique code value, and then click Add a Pipe in the formatting toolbar that appears.
- In the Pipe dialog, from the Sources list, select Profile Variables.
- Select the identity variable you previously created, and click OK.
Now when members click the link in the invitation you send, they will see the end survey message and the unique code that was assigned to them through the identity variable.
Step 4. Distribute the activity to members
- Click the Distribute tab.
- Click New and select Invitation.
- In the Name field, type an internal name for the invitation.
- From the Assign to a Community list, select a community.
- Click Create.
- Compose your email and advise members to click on the link to receive their code.
- Click the Recipients tab.
- From the Recipients list, create or edit a member filter.
- Set the filter condition to include any members who have a value for the profile variable that you created.
- Review and send the activity to your members.
