In some situations a survey is designed to ask the same question multiple time in different contexts. For example, asking for the number of years the respondent has been living in their current country of residence, by country. In this example, a single respondent will be limited to answering the question that corresponds to the country they select.
If you want to consolidate the results for the three "Years in" questions in one visualization in a dashboard, there are two ways to accomplish this.
1) Add a hidden survey question and a Set Value action
This option only works if the questions being consolidated are choice questions. It will not work for open-end questions.
In this example, the Set Value action is added to the survey that consolidates answers where the number of years in Canada, the United States, or Mexico is less than 5 years, in a hidden question named Years Consolidated, and answers that match the condition are assigned the value Less than 5 years. The Years Consolidated field can be used in a single dashboard visualization to show the results for all three "Years in" questions.
2) Add a custom field to the dataset
This option only works if the questions being consolidated are choice questions. It will not work for open-end questions. It also cannot be used with Survey Dashboards (created in the Surveys app) or other templates such as Touchpoint dashboards that do not use datasets.
In this example, a custom field named Years Consolidated is added that consolidates answers where the number of years in Canada, the United States, or Mexico is less than 5 years, and assigned the value Less than 5 years.
