Change a Short Answer question to a Long Answer question quickly
while you are authoring your survey.

In the
Edit Pane, click
More and select
Convert to Long Answer.
Tip: You can also right-click on the question in the
Table of Contents, and select
Convert to Long Answer.

If the question belongs to a survey that has already been
distributed and collected live data, click
Confirm to continue.
Converting the question will make existing question data
unavailable in reporting.
The Short Answer question is converted to a Long Answer question. The
question name changes to
Original Question Name
(Converted).
The following properties are preserved in the converted question:
- Question text
- Question image

Hide
question
-
Response
required
-
Treat response
as sensitive data

Optional:
Rename the converted question.

Review new and updated question
properties, and change them as necessary.

answer text box

Minimum and
maximum response length
- If the default
values were not changed for the Short Answer question (0-200 characters), they
will convert to the default values for a Long Answer question (0-2500
characters).
- If the default
values were changed, they will remain the same in the Long Answer question.
Note:
- If the previous
question was referenced in survey logic, converting to the current question
type may result in errors.
- If a batch
translations file references the previous question, translations for the
converted question will not be imported.
