Convert a Rank Order question to a Multiple Choice question

Change a Rank Order question to a Multiple Choice question quickly while you are authoring your survey.

1. In the Edit Pane, click More and select Convert to > Multiple Choice.
   

   Tip: You can also right-click on the question in the Table of Contents, and select Convert to > Multiple Choice.
2. If the question belongs to a survey that has already been distributed and collected live data, click Confirm to continue.
   Converting the question will make existing question data unavailable in reporting.

The Rank Order question is converted to a Multiple Choice question. The question name changes to Original Question Name (Converted).

The following properties are preserved in the converted question:

• Question text and images
• Answer text
• Answer images
• Pin answer
• Hide question
• Response required
• Show items in order (now Show answers in order)

The following properties are not preserved because they are not applicable in the converted question:

• Number of items to rank

3. Optional: Rename the converted question.
4. Review new and updated question properties, and change them as necessary.
   • Minimum and maximum selection of answers
   • Make answer other/specify
   • Make answer exclusive choice
   • Arrange answers
   • Treat other/specify text response as sensitive data

   • Masking

     After conversion, you may get a Masking is invalid error message because the latter part of the masking condition (the then part) was wiped out.

     

     To fix this issue, click the error message to open the condition builder and select new answer values.

   Note:

   • If the previous question was referenced in survey logic, converting to the current question type may result in errors.
   • If a batch translations file references the previous question, translations for the converted question will not be imported.
