Access reporting
You can view your results in
Monitor and modern reporting.
Monitor displays up-to-date participation data
as responses are coming in. Modern reporting allows you to analyze Tree Test
responses in greater detail.
- To view participation data, click
Monitor.
- Tree Test questions are
listed as part of the survey path. Completion, skip, and stop point information
is displayed for each of them.
- To view response data,
click

- Under
Modern Reporting, click
Get Started.
- Create a new modern report
or open an existing one.
- Scroll to the Tree Test

Tree Test question tile
The Tree Test question tile gives you a high-level overview of testing results, and allows you to drill down to view individual responses.
- On the
Summary tab, you can see these top-level
metrics:
Metric Description Success Rate The number of responses that achieved direct or indirect success, divided by the total number of responses. Hover over the stacked bar chart to view a breakdown of Direct Success, Indirect Success, and Failed percentages. Average Duration The average amount of time someone spent on the Tree Test question, regardless of whether or not they succeeded at the task. -
Below the top-level metrics, you can see all the possible paths taken by participants. For each path, the following information is listed:
Metric Description Task success The success status of the path. These options are possible: - Direct Success: The participants followed the defined navigation path to find the information.
- Indirect Success: The participants did not follow the defined navigation path exactly, but still found the information in the end.
- Failed: The participants failed to complete the task.
Average duration The average amount of time participants spent on the path. Number of participants The number of participants who chose this path. Path The sequence of nodes that the participants clicked. Nodes The total number of nodes that the participants clicked. - Now let's see what else is
in the Usability Task question tile. Click
Crosstabs.
- The
Crosstabs tab displays key metrics regarding
task success and duration.
Table 1. Task Success Metric Description Direct Success The percentage or count of participants who followed the prescribed navigation path to find the information. Indirect Success The percentage or count of participants who did not follow the prescribed navigation path exactly, but still found the information in the end. Failed The percentage or count of participants who did not complete the task. Tip:- Use the menu in the top left corner to switch chart types for Task Success.
- Click Download Chart to download the chart as a PNG or SVG image.
Table 2. Task Duration (mins) Metric Description Min The least amount of time a participant spent on the task. Average The average amount of time a participant spent on a task. Max The highest amount of time a participant spent on a task. - Click Responses to view individual responses. Note: You must be an Admin, or a Power User or Author with the Can access sensitive data permission to view individual responses.
- For each response, the
following information is displayed:
- Respondent ID
- Response date
- Task success status
- Task duration
- Path (the sequence of nodes the participant clicked)
- The number of nodes clicked
Tip: As you're evaluating your Tree
Test data, use these questions to guide your analysis:
- Does the data validate your hypotheses about information placement and architecture? If not, what do you need to change?
- Are there unclear or misleading node labels that seem to confuse participants? What can you do to fix them?
- If there were multiple places where participants could find the information, which ones were most ignored? Is there an opportunity to simplify your information architecture by eliminating them?
