Use survey questions, respondent variables, and profile variables (coming soon) to filter text responses.

On the toolbar, click
Filter.
The Filter panel appears.

Set your filter options.
The following table refers to the preceding image and explains the various options in the Filter panel.
Option Description 1. Include/Exclude Specify whether to include or exclude text responses based on the filter conditions that follow. 2. 4. Question or respondent variable Choose the question or variable from the list.
You can use the following question types as filters:
- Allocation
- Multiple Choice
- Multiple Choice Grid
- Net Promoter Scoreā 1 (Detractor/Passive/Promoter categorization)
- Number
- Profile action (except Date)
- Rank Order
- Single Choice
- Single Choice Grid
You can use the following respondent variables as filters:
- DisplayType
- RespondentLocale
5. Row or item (Grid, Rank Order, or Allocation question) If the condition is based on a Grid, Rank Order, or Allocation question, specify the row or item. 6. Condition operator Select the operator for the condition. For most question types, the options are:
- Is
- Is not
For Number and Allocation questions, the options are:
- Equals
- Does not equal
- Greater than
- Greater than or equal to
- Less than
- Less than or equal to
7. Answer or value Select one or more answers or values for the condition. - For most question types, select one or more answers.
- For Number and Allocation questions, type a numerical value.
- For Rank Order questions, select the ranks associated with the answer.
8. Add a condition Click the plus sign button to add another condition. The relationship between conditions depends on whether AND or OR is used. 9. Delete a condition Click the x
button to delete an unnecessary condition.Tip: Filtering in text analysis is similar to filtering in a standard report. For detailed examples of filter statements, see Filter examples. -
Optional:
Click
Count to see how many responses will be
included after you apply your filter.
Count is useful for spotting possible errors in filter logic. For example, if you expect approximately 200-300 responses to be included after you apply a filter, but Count shows 0 responses will be included, you may want to check your filter again.

Click
Apply.
The report updates and displays responses that meet the filter's conditions. On the toolbar, a red dot appears next to Filter indicating that a filter was applied.
- To edit the filter, click Filter on the toolbar, make your changes to the filter statements, and click Apply.
The filters you apply will affect the data included in CSV exports.
