The Table of Contents displays all questions, survey actions, and page elements, and you can use it to navigate your survey.
The Table of Contents displays:
- All survey objects
- Icons for each survey object
- Icons for collapsible groups
- A highlighted box indicating the active survey object
Survey objects
A survey object is any question, survey action, or page element you add to the Table of Contents from the Survey Toolbox. Survey objects appear in the order you added them to the Table of Contents.
Click a survey object in the Table of Contents to open the Edit Pane. You can move a survey object in the Table of Contents by dragging it to the desired location. Right-click the object to remove, duplicate, preview the object, or move it up or down.
The last object you add or edit in the Table of Contents becomes the active survey object. A blue background indicates the object is active. Depending on the object's default behavior, the next item you click in the Survey Toolbox is automatically added to the active survey object, regardless of it's position in the Table of Contents. To deselect the active survey object, click the white space outside of the survey object.
Pages
Pages group a series of related questions so participants can scroll and answer questions in a fluid process. Participants cannot click Next until they have answered all the questions on the page.
The first question you add to the Table of Contents creates a new page in your survey. Any subsequent questions you click in the Survey Toolbox are automatically added to the page. To show one question per page, drag it to the desired location in the Table of Contents, or click the space outside of the page before selecting another question type. You can remove a question from a page by right-clicking the question in the Table of Contents and selecting Up or Down.
Pages are numbered sequentially based on their position in the Table of Contents and are automatically updated when you delete or move a page. Page numbers are not visible to survey participants or when you print your survey.
For more information, see Create questions and Create a Page in your survey.

You want to add a series of questions to the Table of Contents to determine which question types best suit your survey needs.
First you add a Text and Image page element to introduce your survey to participants.
Next you click the Email question in the Survey Toolbox. The Email question is added to the first page in your survey. When you preview your survey, the Text and Image page element and the Email question will appear on one page in your survey.
To add one question at a time, drag the question type from the Survey Toolbox into the Table of Contents. When you preview your survey, you will need to click Next on the Text and Image page to view the next question in your survey.
Collapsible groups
A collapsible group is a folder within the Table of Contents for managing related survey objects. Objects contained in the group appear indented below the group name. You can collapse or expand a group by clicking the icon at the left of the group name.
