Use this document as a guide for creating masking conditions in your survey.
Show answers based on a survey question
Create a condition to show answers based on a response to a previous question
- What kind of car do you own?
- What model of car do you own?
In the second question, you only want to display car models made by the car manufacturer the participant selected in the first question.
To create this mask:

Create the following Single Choice question and name it Car Make.

Create the following Single Choice question, and name it Car Model.

In the question named Car Model, click .
- Create a condition for
participants who select
Honda in the question named
Car Make.
- From the Sources list, select This Survey.
- From the Question or Variable list, select Car Make.
- Set the operator to Is.
- From the Select answers/values list, select Honda.
- Set the condition to
only show cars made by Honda.
- Set the condition to Show.
- From the Answers list, select cars made by Honda.
- Click Add Another Set.
- Create a condition that
will only show cars made by Toyota.
- From the Sources list, select This Survey.
- From the Question or Variable list, select Car Make.
- Set the operator to Is.
- From the Select answers/values list, select Toyota.
- From the
Answers list, select the cars made by
Toyota.
Note: By default, the new condition is set to Show.
- Repeat steps 6-7 and set the condition to show cars made by Nissan, then click Save.
- Pipe the response from the Car Make question into the question text of Car Model. For more information, see Pipe answers into question or answer text.
When you test your survey, you will only see cars models made by the manufacturer you selected in the question named Car Make.
Hide answers based on a profile variable
Create a condition to hide grocery stores based on where a member lives
You want to ask members to select the grocery stores they have shopped at in the last three months.

To create this mask:
- Create a Multiple Choice question and enter the names of all the grocery stores in the Answers field.
- Click

- Create a masking
condition to hide
IGA Extra from members that cannot shop there:
- From the Sources list, select Profile Variables.
- From the Question or Variable list, select Province.
- Set the operator to Is.
- From the Select answers/values list, select the provinces that do not have an IGA Extra location.
- Hide
IGA Extra from members whose profile variable
matches the values you selected in step 3.
- Set the condition to Hide.
- From the Answers list, select IGA Extra.
- Click Add Another Set.
- Hide
IGA MarketPlace from members that cannot shop
there.
- From the Sources list, select Profile Variables.
- From the Question or Variable list, select Province.
- Set the operator to Is.
- From the Select answers/values list, select the provinces that do not have an IGA MarketPlace location.
- From the
Answers list, select
IGA MarketPlace.
Note: By default, the new condition is set to Hide.
- Click Add Another Set.
- Repeat step 6 to create
a condition that will hide
Sobeys from members who live in British
Columbia.
After you distribute your survey, members who live in British Columbia can select IGA MarketPlace; however, they will not see an answer option for IGA Extra and Sobeys.
