The word cloud is an interactive, text-based, visual representation of the most frequently occurring words in a forum's posts and replies.
On the forum page, the word cloud appears below the forum title and description and above posts and replies. The size of a word is proportional to the number of posts in which it occurs: the more posts in which a word occurs, the larger the word appears in the word cloud. To avoid skewing results, the word cloud excludes moderator content and only counts participants' posts.
You can use the options in the word cloud to filter and sort content so that you view only posts and replies that contain certain words.
How does the word cloud interact with the tag cloud?
Word cloud and tag cloud selections function independently of each other. If you filter forum posts and replies with the word cloud, you cannot use the tag cloud to further filter results, and vice versa.
How does the word cloud interact with the forum toolbar?
The word cloud works together with the forum toolbar settings to display a filtered view of posts and replies. If you click a word in the word cloud and then select a setting from one of the forum toolbar menus, the forum page only displays posts and replies that meet both sets of criteria. The order in which you make your selections does not matter.
Example: Filtering forum posts and replies using the word cloud and the forum toolbar
In your Lipstick Lovers Forum, you want to know how many people have mentioned red lipstick since yesterday and what was said. To see the relevant posts and replies, you do the following:
- In the word cloud, you click the word Red.
- On the forum toolbar, you select 24 Hours Ago from the since menu.
The page refreshes and only displays posts and replies about red lipstick made in the last 24 hours.
