Tip: Random distribution and Least Filled concept testing are available for surveys! Both of these methods allow you to achieve even distribution without scripting. For more information, see Quick comparison: Random distribution, Least Filled concept testing, even distribution scripts.
This template will allow you to assign ONE OR MORE concepts to a respondent, according to the least filled quota at the time, so there will be an even distribution across all concepts once the study is out of field. Each concept will need its own set of questions placed in a block.
The template allows each respondent to view more than one set of questions/concepts. For example, when you have three sets of questions/concepts, you can show just two sets of questions to each respondent. The application will assign the two with the lowest quota counts.
There are 3 separate templates within this article you can choose from, depending on your study requirements:
Please use the template with the lowest number of concepts that corresponds to your requirements, to avoid unwanted elements in your study (E.g. do not use the 40 concept template if you only have 5 concepts in your study)
- Template 1 - Assign up to 5 concepts to each respondent.
- Template 2 - Assign up to 15 concepts to each respondent.
- Template 3 - Assign up to 40 concepts to each respondent.
Please note: We have deprecated the script that assigns uneven distribution. If you require this, please contact your Customer Success Manager or Technical Support.
Detailed Steps

Import the necessary template into your panel:
- Download the PXML template:
- In the Surveys app, click New Project.
- Under Power Survey, click Import.
- Select the PXML file you downloaded and click Open.
- Give the power survey an internal name.
- Click Upload.

Add the template to your study:
- Create/author your power survey as required.
- Go to the Questionnaire tab of your study.
- Click Library on the Authoring toolbar.
- In the Library Browser, look for the template study in the Studies section, under Pending Studies (the study you created in step 1).
- Expand the template study in the Library Browser and drag the block into your Questionnaire Tree as required. DO NOT rename any of the blocks or questions.

Set up Even Distribution:

Note: When you see "EDM#_..." in the following instructions, # can vary depending on which template you use:
- Template 1 (max 5 concepts): question names start with EDM5_
- Template 2 (max 15 concepts): question names start with EDM15_
- Template 3 (max 40 concepts): question name starts with EDM40_
- Click on the EDM#_CONCEPTS hidden question
- Update the answer options with the list of your concept names. Delete any extra answer options.
- Click on the EDM#_SET_CONCEPTS script action.

Update the number in the first line of script to the number of concepts you would like to assign to each respondent. The first line of script should say:

Create your concept questions:
- Expand block EDM#_CONCEPTS_QUESTIONS, you should see a list of conditional sequences that correspond to each concept seen by the respondent.
- Expand IF_EDM#_CONCEPT_1, you should see block EDM#_CONTENT_CONCEPT_1.
- Author your concept questions for the first concept in this block and delete the text instruction placeholder EDM#_CONCEPT_1.
- Repeat these steps to author questions for every concept.
- If you have less than the maximum number of concepts allowed in the template, there is no need to delete the unused blocks, but you can if you'd like.

Validate and test your survey.
