Survey templates are reusable full-survey blueprints that your organization creates, stores, and shares within your community.
Custom survey templates help you standardize methodology, reduce manual duplication, and speed up survey creation. You can save an existing survey as a template, edit the template independently, and create new surveys from it. Surveys created from a template are separate copies—they are not linked to the template, and changes to the template do not update existing surveys.
- Better organization. All your survey templates are stored in one place separately from the rest of your activities. You don't have to use an awkward naming convention to find your survey templates by name or keyword or ensure your templates appear at the top of the Activities list. What's more, your survey templates will not get pushed down the Activities list as you create and distribute more activities.
- Ease of access. Your survey templates are available right at the start of the survey creation workflow. Others in your organization can also access these templates easily.
- Built-in instructions. You can provide custom instructions in survey templates so that team members who are less familiar or experienced know what needs to be edited when a template is used.
Custom templates appear in the Custom templates section at the top of the template library when you create a survey from a template. This is separate from activity templates, which are Alida-authored starting points, and from the Question Library, where you save individual questions, page elements, and survey actions for reuse within a survey.
What a survey template includes
When you save a survey as a template, the survey definition is preserved, including:
- Questions, page elements, and survey actions
- Survey logic and structure
- Survey theme settings
A survey template does not include participation data, reports, or communications from the source survey.
Access
If you have access to a template, you can create surveys from it and edit it. Template access follows the same access level framework as other activities in your community.
