Add profile variables to a member hub

To avoid having to re-profile members, you can display profile variables on the member hub. This lets members update their own personal information.

By default, members can update the following pieces of profile information from Account Settings > Profile:

• Display Name
• Email Address
  Note: If you are a member of multiple member hubs, Email Address cannot be changed.
• Password

Members can also update the values for other profile variables from Account Settings > Profile Data.

When members update their values in the member hub, their profile information is updated immediately. A last updated timestamp appears next to the changed value.

Note: The application keeps and displays the most recent value, whether it comes from a member hub update or a CSV upload.

1. In a member hub, click Properties > Member Data.
   
2. Click Add PVs or Manage Profile Variables.
3. Select the profile variables you want to display.
   Note:

   • All profile variable types are supported.
   • For system variables, you can only select firstname, lastname, and email to display.
4. Optional: To re-order profile variables, hover over the left side until your cursor becomes a crosshair, and drag the profile variables up or down.
   
5. For each profile variable, expand Options and configure the following:
   • Member facing name: This is the label members see instead of the actual profile variable name.
   • Change frequency: This option controls how frequently members can update their profile information. Options include:
     • Unlimited: Members can update their information any time. The fields are always editable.
     • Annually: Members can update their information once a year.
     • Every six months: Members can update their information once every six months.

     Annually and Every six months are calculated from the last time a member's profile information was updated through the member hub. The time span resets whenever a change occurs.

     The fields are editable when sufficient time has elapsed. The rest of the time, the fields are greyed out.

   • Category: Add the profile variable to a category.
   • Read only: Select this option if you want to display the profile variable value, without letting members edit it. Members will contact Alida's member support to request any changes.
     Tip: Read only is recommended for Open End profile variables as there is no form validation for these fields.
   • Make visible to moderators: Select this option to display the profile variable value on the Team page (Properties > Team) and in the member details popup when viewed by a moderator.
   • Make visible to members: Select this option to display the profile variable value on the Team page (Properties > Team) and in the member details popup when viewed by other members.
     Note: If your Hub has the Require Display Name and PII Consent option selected in Advanced tab on the Settings page, you will be prompted to confirm that adding the new or updated profile variable will require all members to acknowledge their consent the next time they sign in. For more information, see Require display name and PII consent.
6. Optional: Add and manage categories.
   Categories let you organize profile variables in a way that makes sense for you and for members. On the member hub, they appear as filters in Account Settings > Profile Data.
   1. Do either of the following:
      • In the Categories area, click +.
      • While editing options for a profile variable, click the Category menu and select Add Category.
   2. Name the category, and click Save.
   3. To edit a category name, in the Categories area, click options menu and select Edit.
      

      Type the new name and click Save.

   4. To delete a category, in the Categories area, click options menu and select Delete.

      The category is deleted. The profile variables that belonged to the deleted category now have empty category values.

7. To delete a profile variable from the display, click the delete button.
   
8. Click Revert to revert your changes.
9. When you are finished, click Save.
