Learn more about how survey questions are displayed in responding, for participants who use a language that reads from right to left like Arabic or Hebrew.
The following sections provide overview information about RTL surveys and how to get started distributing surveys in Arabic and Hebrew. Examples of what each question type looks like in RTL alignment are also provided, with details about specific question types where relevant.
- RTL alignment is supported for surveys and recruitment surveys. It is not supported for power surveys or forums.
- Currently, RTL surveys
support the following languages:
- Arabic
- Hebrew
- RTL surveys are supported in classic and modern surveys. For more information about modern surveys, see Questions in modern view.
Overview
- The survey invitation participants receive is right-aligned.
- The sign-up page is right-aligned.
- Text and images are right-aligned.
- In text entry fields, the cursor goes from right to left. The text entry field is right-aligned.
- The next and back buttons go from right to left.
- The survey progress bar goes from right to left.
- The survey header and footer are right-aligned.
- When participants open full-sized images and zoom in and out, the zoom slider moves from the right to the left.
- Sliders still go from left to right.

Pre-requisites for distributing Arabic and Hebrew surveys
- You must have multiple
communities.
Community 1 - Default locale that is not Arabic or Hebrew
Community 2 - Locale that is Arabic or Hebrew
- Author a survey in the default locale.
- Import the Arabic or Hebrew translation in the Translations workspace.
- Alternately, in the Translations workspace, add Arabic or Hebrew as a secondary locale, and then enter the survey translations in the column on the right.

Invitations for Arabic and Hebrew surveys
For distribution emails in Arabic or Hebrew, the subject line, email body, and email footer all support RTL alignment by default. When you select Arabic or Hebrew as the invitation locale, the invitation has the following settings:
- The subject line goes from right to left.
- For the email body, the
default settings are described below. If you want to edit the email body and
use an LTR language (for example, write an email in English instead of Arabic
or Hebrew), you must change these settings.

Table alignment On the email editor toolbar, click Table. On the Advanced tab, the Language Direction menu is set to Right to left (RTL). On the Advanced tab, from the Language Direction menu, select Left to Right (LTR). Image alignment Right-click an image and select Image properties. On the Advanced tab, the Language Direction menu is set to Right to left (RTL). On the Advanced tab, from the Language Direction menu, select Left to Right (LTR). Tip: To quickly change the alignment direction of a paragraph, use the Text direction from left to right and Text direction from right to left buttons in the email editor toolbar. - The email footer text goes from right to left.
