How do I test an email invitation from an external activity that contains appended variables or an activity link?

When you send a test email to see how your communication looks before distributing to members, appended variables or activity links for external activities are disabled. A workaround is to create a test community member using your email address, so you can receive the invitation. You can then use this test profile to test future email invitations.

Example

You would like to test if an activity link for an external activity is working properly in an email invitation.

Detailed Steps

1. Create a test recruitment survey.
2. Distribute the survey to your test email address.
3. Respond to the recruitment survey and the confirmation message.
4. Open your external activity, and on the Distribute page, click New Invitation.
5. Create a descriptive name for this distribution email.
6. On the Recipients tab, from the Recipients menu, select Create a new filter.
7. Create a condition based on the email profile variable to find your test profile email address.
8. Click Save.
9. Send the email invitation to this group for invites with the activity link or appended variables you want to test.
