On March 25, 2019, Alida mapped the PanelistName system variable in Sparq 1 to the corresponding FirstName and LastName system variables in Community. After the update, upgraded customers can use the FirstName and LastName system variables to pipe a member's name into survey question and answer text or into emails.
Due to name format conventions, communities with the following locale settings were excluded from the update:
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Chinese (Traditional)
- Japanese
- Korean
- Vietnamese
Upgraded customers with these locales should use [%PanelistName%] to pipe a first name, last name, or both depending on what is saved by the community. This is determined by the script used in the Profiling Questionnaire.
To pipe in member's first and last names separately, you can add member's first and last names to the application as profile variables under FirstName and LastName respectively, through a CSV import or a system upload. Wherever you need to pipe in first names or last names (for example, in survey question and answer text or in emails), type [%FirstName%] or [%LastName%]. This method can be used by upgraded and new customers alike.
If you are importing nonmembers into an invitation through a CSV file, include first names and last names under the column headers FirstName and LastName, respectively. Then you can use the [%FirstName%] and [%LastName%] pipes just as you would with members. This method can be used by upgraded and new customers alike.
When you send test emails to yourself, the pipes will appear exactly as you have typed them ([%PanelistName%], [%FirstName%], [%LastName%]) instead of being populated by member values. This behavior is expected. The emails sent to members will display the correct values. If members do not have values for the pipes, blank spaces will appear instead.
If first and last names have been stored together under PanelistName or FirstName, you can separate them in Excel. For more information about how to do this, see the Knowledge Base article How do I separate first name and last name using Excel? (Power Surveys).
