Tip: Random distribution and Least Filled concept testing are available for surveys! Both of these methods allow you to achieve even distribution without scripting. For more information, see Quick comparison: Random distribution, Least Filled concept testing, even distribution scripts.
Example
You have 15 new names for a frozen dinner product. You ask respondents to select all the names that they like on a multi choice question called "NAMES_LIKE" and would like each respondent to rate up to 5 names of the ones they like.
Detailed Steps
-
Import the template into your panel:
- Download the PXML template here.
- In the Surveys app, click New Project.
- Under Power Survey, click Import.
- Select the PXML template you downloaded, and click Open.
- Give the power survey an internal name.
- Click Upload.
-
Add the template to your study:
- Create/author your power survey as required.
- Go to the Questionnaire tab of your study.
- Click Library on the Authoring toolbar.
- In the Library Browser, look for the template study in the Studies section, under Pending Studies (the study you created in step 1).
- Expand the template study in the Library Browser and drag the EDMQ15_QUALEX_2PLUS_OF_MAX_15 block into your study as required. Do not rename any of the blocks or questions.
- Ensure that NAMES_LIKE is placed anywhere in the study but before EDMQ15_QUALEX_2PLUS_OF_MAX_15 block. Note that NAMES_LIKE is not part of the template. We are assuming you have a multi-choice question like this in your study, and NAMES_LIKE is just an example question name. Question name does NOT have to be the same.
- Expand the EDMQ15_HIDDEN block and delete the conditional sequence IF_EDMQ15_CONCEPTS_QUALIFIED.
Note: This Conditional Sequence is required to pull in the EDSQ15_CONCEPT_QUALIFIED recode question as a dependency. Once the template is within the study, the EDSQ15_CONCEPT_QUALIFIED Conditional Sequence is irrelevant and can be removed.
-
Set up Even Distribution:
- Click on the EDMQ15_CONCEPTS question and update the answer options with the list of your 15 frozen dinner names.
- Click on the EDMQ15_SET_CONCEPTS_EXCL script action and update the first line of script to show up to 5 concepts.
- In this example, there are no exclusive concepts so no need to update the second line of script. It should look like the below screenshot:
- Click on the EDMQ15_CONCEPTS question and update the answer options with the list of your 15 frozen dinner names.
-
Create your concept questions:
- Each concept will have its own conditional sequence and block of questions within the conditional sequence.
Concept 1 questions: Expand the IF_EDMQ15_CONCEPT_1 conditional sequence and author the questions in the EDMQ15_CONTENT_CONCEPT_1 block. Delete the EDMQ15_CONCEPT_1 text instruction.
Concept 2 questions: Expand the IF_EDMQ15_CONCEPT_2 conditional sequence and author the questions in the EDMQ15_CONTENT_CONCEPT_2 block. Delete the EDMQ15_CONCEPT_2 text instruction. - Repeat for the rest of the 15 concepts.
- Each concept will have its own conditional sequence and block of questions within the conditional sequence.
-
Create the qualifications for each concept:
- Click on References and Recodes at the bottom of the questionnaire tree.
- Click on the EDMQ15_CONCEPTS_QUALIFIED recode question. Ensure that the option list aligns with the option list in EDMQ15_CONCEPTS question. There should be 15 responses here.
- Update the recode filter for each concept to reflect what the corresponding qualification should be. In this example, the filter for Name 1 is shown in the following screenshot. Similarly, the filter for Name 2 is "NAMES_LIKE IS 2", the filter for Name 3 is "NAMES_LIKE IS 3" and so on.
-
Update the disqualification text EDMQ15_NO_QUAL_DQ as required.
- Validate and test your survey.
