How do I merge the data of two surveys that contain the same questions using power surveys?

You can merge response data from two identical surveys by importing the data into a new power survey.

To do this, you will need to complete three steps:

1. Create a new power survey to combine the data.
2. Export the data from the two surveys.
3. Import the data from the two surveys into your new power survey.

Detailed Steps

1. Create a new power survey to combine the data

1. Duplicate one of the two power surveys you want to combine.
2. In Power Survey Authoring, select the Questionnaire tab and rename questions as needed.
3. Click Save, then Validate.

2. Export response data from the two surveys

1. Click one of the surveys you want to export from the Activities List.
2. In your power survey, click the Exports tab.
3. Click New Export.
4. In the New Study Export dialog, type a name for the export and then click OK.
5. From the Data Set list, select Live data.
6. From the Export Via list, select Download to Desktop.
7. From the Select File Type option, select Comma Separated Value (CSV).
8. Type a password in the Password field.

The password must:

• Contain at least six and no more than twelve characters.
• Contain at least one uppercase letter.
• Contain at least one lowercase letter.
• Contain at least one number.

9. To start the export immediately, click Run Export.
10. On the Exports page, click Download under the Delivery column.

Note: The download link does not appear immediately. To see the link, click the Refresh Status button a few seconds after you run the export.

11. Manually edit your export file to match the question names in the new power survey.

Note: The import will fail if the question names in the import file does not match the power survey.

12. Repeat steps 1-11 above for the second survey export.

3. Import the data into your new power survey

1. Open the new power survey you will be using to combine your data.
2. In your power survey, click the Imports tab.
3. Click New Import and enter a name for the import.
4. Click Choose File to upload the exported survey reports saved earlier as a .CSV file.
5. Deselect the checkbox for Only import record matches for panelists in study.
6. Select Next Step.
7. If all questions line up, click Run Import.
8. Repeat steps 2-7 above to import the second survey report data.

Result: The data from both surveys is now contained in one survey and is available for reporting.
