Tip: Random distribution and Least Filled concept testing are available for surveys! Both of these methods allow you to achieve even distribution without scripting. For more information, see Quick comparison: Random distribution, Least Filled concept testing, even distribution scripts.

You would like to test product names for different types of drinks: Water (show 1 out of 3 concepts), Juice (show 3 out of 10 concepts), and Pop (show 1 out of 4 concepts, this one has images).

Detailed Steps

Import Template 1a (up to 5 concepts) into your panel:
- Download the PXML template here.
- In the Surveys app, click New Project.
- Under Power Survey, click Import.
- Select the PXML template you downloaded, and click Open.
- Give the power survey an internal name.
- Click Upload.
Import Template 2b (assign 2+, up to 15 concepts) into your panel:
- Download the PXML template here.
- Follow same steps above to import this second template.
Add the template to your study:
- Create/author your power survey as required.
- Go to the Questionnaire tab of your study.
- Click on Library on the Authoring toolbar.
- In the Library Browser, look for the template study in the Studies section, under Pending Studies (the study your created in step 1).
- Expand the template study in the Library Browser and drag the blocks into your Questionnaire Tree as required. Do not rename any of the blocks or questions.
- Drag the EDS5_1_ONE_OF_MAX_5 block (from template 1a) into your study. This will be used for the Water product questions.
- Drag the EDS5_2_ONE_OF_MAX_5 block (from template 1a) into your study. This will be used for the Pop product questions.
- Drag the EDM15_1_2PLUS_OF_MAX_15 block (from template 2b) into your study. This will be used for the Juice product questions.
Set up Even Distribution:
For the Water block:
- Click on the EDS5_1_CONCEPT question and update the answer options with the list of your 3 Water product names. Remove the extra 2 options at the end of the list.
For the Juice block:
- Click on the EDM15_1_CONCEPTS question and update the answer options with the list of your 10 Juice product names. Remove the extra 5 options at the end of the list.
For the Pop block:
- Click on the EDS5_2_CONCEPT question and update the answer options with the list of your 4 Pop product names. Remove the extra option at the end of the list.
Expand EDS5_2_HIDDEN, and click on the EDS5_2_CONCEPT_IMG question and update the answer options with the list of your 4 product image. Remove the last extra option at the end of the list. The question holding the concept name and the question holding the concept images should match in the number of options and order.
Create your concept questions:
Water questions:
- Author your concept questions in the EDS5_1_QUESTIONS_HERE block. There will be only one set of concept questions and assigned concept will be piped in.
- Click on the EDS5_1_CONCEPT_PIPE_EXAMPLE text instruction and copy the pipe [%EDS5_1_CONCEPT%]. Insert this in question texts you want the concept to be shown.
- Delete the EDS5_1_CONCEPT_PIPE_EXAMPLE text instruction.
Juice questions:
- Author the questions relating to the first juice product name within the EDM15_1_CONTENT_CONCEPT_1 block under IF_EDM15_1_CONCEPT_1 condition. Delete the EDM15_1_CONCEPT_1 placeholder text instruction.
  Author the questions relating to the second frozen dinner name within the EDM15_1_CONTENT_CONCEPT_2 block under IF_EDM15_1_CONCEPT_2 condition. Delete the EDM15_CONCEPT_2 placeholder text instruction.
  ....and repeat for the rest of the 10 juice concepts.
- There is no need to delete the unused conditions, but you can if you like.
Pop questions:
- Author your concept questions in the EDS5_2_QUESTIONS_HERE block. There will be only one set of concept questions and assigned concept will be piped in.
- Insert [%EDSB5_2_CONCEPT%] where you want to show pop product name, and insert [%EDS5_2_CONCEPT_IMG%] to show pop product image.
- Delete the EDS5_2_CONCEPT_PIPE_EXAMPLE text instruction.
Validate and test your survey.
